We’ve now tested both of Cricket’s modems the UM185C (as seen in the above video) and the A600.  Overall, the mobile internet is perfect for supplemental internet use.  Recently we traveled from San Diego, CA to Las Vegas, NV using Cricket Wireless broadband internet quite successfully at both destinations.  The bottom line is Cricket Internet is perfect for light internet browsing, e-mailing, chatting, social networking, occasional song downloading, youtubing but do not expect to download giant files.  Cricket Internet Speed Tests show that the service is on par with entry level DSL.  These sort of speeds are to be expected for most mobile broadband providers.  If you’re looking for an alternative provider Virgin Mobile provides prepaid broadband to go. Quick Review:

If you are lucky enough to live in one of the 35 US States that MyCricket is currently available then you are in for a treat.  Currently they service over 4.6 million customers across the US.  They are well known for being an “Alternative” wireless provider.  They target customers who usually wouldn’t qualify for service with other major national providers such as AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon.  They offer a great value opposed to other lesser pre-paid wireless options.  A couple criticisms are that they charge full price for phones.  This is attributed to the fact that they don’t require any signed contracts and you can cancel service during any month of your plan.  However, in recent past they have been getting much better about providing affordable phone options.  They regularly offer phones under $50 that include a free months service, free shipping, and no signed contracts.  Another problem in the past was their phone selection.  They offered a very limited number of phones.  This has become much better in the past few months.  They now offer a fairly broad selection of phones with a variety of features.  They also allow for phones from other providers such as Verizon or Sprint to be “Flashed” to their phone service.  Other problems include their service area.  The main coverage map is limited however, they have contracts with national providers to allow for full national service.  One of the biggest benefits Cricket Wireless offers is unlimited international texting to Mexico.  If Cricket Wireless is available in your area for Wireless service or Broadband internet you should certainly check them out!
